Breathalyzers hacked

The Internet of Things (IoT) remains ripe with hacking opportunities. A breathalyzer company was hacked leaving drivers unable to use their vehicles to do things like drive to work. The company has “temporarily pause some of our systems as a precautionary measure.” The breathalyzers are used in 46 states.

It reads like a regulatory gap with no alternative for stranded drivers.

US EV market perspective

In 2025, EV interest dropped/ began to plateau  because of changes in federal policy. This in turn impacted US EV battery manufacturing.

An analysis from the Dallas Federal Reserve discusses that more than 20 gigafactories were announced from 2021-2022, accounting for more than $50 billion in potential investment and thousands of new jobs. More announcements of gigafactories continued in 2023 and 2024. The slow down in 2025 indicates that these investments will not be realized, but alas! There is a pivot to enrgy storage.
